Applications
-
Oil & Gas
- Detects H₂S in underground pumping stations, where gas accumulates in confined spaces.
- Fixed detectors monitor digesters producing biogas that may contain dangerous H₂S levels.
- Tracks H₂S levels where organic waste breaks down, preventing excessive gas buildup.
- Protects maintenance workers entering confined spaces during routine inspections and cleaning.
-
Water and Wastewater Treatment
- Installed near wellheads, drilling mud pits, and confined spaces to monitor H₂S gas from underground reservoirs.
- Detects gas releases during drilling operations, preventing hazardous exposure.
- Used in test separators, gas processing units, and wellheads to detect H₂S from crude oil and natural gas.
- Fixed detectors monitor processing areas where sour gas is treated, including dehydration, sweetening, and sulfur recovery units.
- Installed at valve stations and pigging stations where maintenance activities can release H₂S.
- Ensures safety during pipeline purging and depressurization.
- Used near catalytic cracking units, hydrocracking units, and sulfur recovery systems where H₂S is present.
-
Mining
- Fixed H₂S detectors are installed in ventilation shafts, escape routes, and work areas.
- Provides real-time monitoring to prevent H₂S poisoning.
- H₂S is produced in metal extraction, especially in nickel, copper, and zinc smelting.
- Continuous monitoring ensures worker safety in enclosed processing units.

Hydrogen Sulfide Gas Safety Limits
Regulatory agencies, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), and ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists), have established strict exposure limits for H₂S to protect workers from toxic exposure:
: 10 ppm (parts per million) for an 8-hour work shift.
: 10 ppm with a Ceiling Limit of 15 ppm.
: 100 ppm – Immediate evacuation is required.
: 1 ppm as an 8-hour TWA (Time-Weighted Average) to minimize health risks.

Characteristics of H2S
Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) is a highly toxic, flammable, and colorless gas with a characteristic rotten egg odor at low concentrations. It is commonly found in oil and gas production, wastewater treatment, petrochemical refineries, pulp and paper mills, and mining operations. Exposure to H₂S can cause serious health issues, ranging from eye and respiratory irritation at low levels to unconsciousness and death at higher concentrations. Because H₂S is heavier than air, it can accumulate in low-lying areas, increasing the risk of exposure in confined spaces.

Australian operated and owned.
